Hit $14,300 in unpaid invoices last Tuesday and that number finally woke me up
I ran the report for the first time in 8 months and almost fell out of my chair at the $14,300 sitting in the 90+ day column, with one landscaper in Tacoma owing $3,800 since April. I kept telling myself the work would speak for itself, but it turns out nobody hands you money just because you did a good job. How do you guys handle the awkward part of asking for money twice without feeling like a jerk?
Man, my buddy went through this exact thing last year with a roofer who owed him $2,100. He sent a nice "hey just checking in on that invoice" email in June, got ignored, sent another in July, got a "sorry man things are tight" text, and then sat on it until October because he didn't want to be a pest. Finally he just called the guy and said "I need to get this handled, can we do $350 a month?" and the dude paid the whole thing in two weeks. Turns out the guy was just embarrassed and avoiding him. The awkward silence is usually worse than the ask.
