My barber in Tulsa used to write my name in a little paper book, now it's a card reader and a text
Got a haircut last Tuesday at the same shop I've gone to since 2008, and the guy at the chair next to me paid with his phone while I handed over cash. Made me think about how the shop never took cards until about five years ago, and now they text you a link to pay before you even leave the chair. The owner, Ray, told me he used to chase regulars for $15 for weeks back when it was all paper slips. Honestly the text reminder is the only reason half his customers pay on time now, me included. Anyone else notice small shops like this get paid faster once they quit taking IOUs?

Laughed at the image of Ray chasing guys down the street for fifteen bucks like it's a mob movie or something. Pretty sure every barber in America had a little spiral notebook full of names and dollar amounts they were never gonna see again. The card reader basically turned into a collections agency that doesn't yell at you. My guy texts me a link before I'm even out of the chair and honestly I pay it in like ten seconds just to make the buzzing stop. Kinda sad the paper book is gone though, there was something about Ray knowing your name and what you owed him that felt personal.
