Question about charging deposits up front vs billing after the job is done
A plumber named Dave I grab coffee with in Tucson told me last week he now takes 50 percent down before he even loads his truck, and he hasn't chased a single unpaid invoice in 8 months. I've always billed the full amount after the work is done because I figured it feels friendlier and wins more bids, but I got stiffed on a $1,800 job back in June and it stung. On one hand, deposits protect you and filter out the flakes, but on the other hand I worry it scares off the good clients who just want a normal transaction. So where do you all land on this, do you take money up front or bill at the end, and has switching either way actually changed how often you get paid?
