My friend told me to skip the first season of a show, which felt wrong

I was talking to a buddy last week about starting 'The Office' US version. He said, "Just skip season one, it's only six episodes and they're still figuring it out." That hit different because I remember watching it week by week back in 2005. Binging has changed how we treat shows, making slow starts feel like a waste of time instead of a build-up. I watched those six episodes anyway and honestly, they're rough, but you see the roots of everything. Has anyone else had a show where the first season is actually key to the whole thing?

Tried that with Breaking Bad, glad I didn't skip.

Stick with the first season of Parks and Rec. It feels slow, but you need to see how awkward everyone starts to get why their growth matters later on. Skipping it would make the later jokes feel empty.

Honestly I just tell people to skip season one. The show was still finding its voice and the characters are almost different people. You can watch a recap online and jump to season two without missing much. The real heart of the show starts when Ben and Chris show up anyway.
