Serious question, did Gen Con make anyone else quit buying games at the store?
Went to Gen Con in Indy back in 2019 and played a demo of a game I had never heard of. Bought it right there for $55, then found the same copy at my local shop for $38 a week later. Now I mostly just demo stuff at cons and order online or from the shop, but a buddy says that is killing the stores that host game night. Where do you all land, buy at the con to support the publisher or wait and get it cheaper?
Funny thing, I had the opposite happen at a local con a few years back. Demoed some dice game, grabbed it for 40 bucks, then saw it at Gen Con two months later for like 25. I still buy from my shop most of the time though, mostly because the owner lets us game in the back room on Thursdays. If he ever closed up I would be playing at my kitchen table alone like a weirdo.
