DAE think the "grind the weld and hide it" fix is lazy on a 2 inch nozzle?
Had a 2 inch nozzle on a small boiler at a plant in Gary that kept weeping at the weld after two pressure tests, and I burned close to 14 hours trying to chase it down instead of just cutting it out. I finally found the root cause was a tiny bit of slag trapped under the root pass that I never would have seen without grinding, which is why I think the "if it holds, it holds" attitude some guys have on here is flat out risky. Has anyone else had a weep that kept coming back at a set pressure, and what did you end up doing to fix it for good?
Grinding and rewelding a weeping nozzle is the ONLY way to find trapped slag like that. Cutting corners there just means you'll be back at it next pressure test.
