Can we talk about our book club's big fight over that meditation book's stress claims?

In my opinion, daily meditation just isn't the fix for everyone's anxiety.

The thing nobody talks about is how meditation can actually make some people more aware of their stress. I tried that body scan method from the book and just fixated on my racing heart, which made everything worse. It assumes your inner state is a quiet place you can return to, but for some of us that baseline is pretty loud.

Honestly, you hit on something big. Most guides assume a quiet mind as the goal. But what if your brain is always busy? For some, focusing inward just magnifies the chaos. Like someone with constant worry feeling trapped by their own thoughts. Or a body scan bringing up old pain instead of peace. Maybe starting with movement, like walking, helps more than sitting still. It's not about finding silence but learning to be okay with the sound.

Walk before you sit, always helps me.

My first yoga teacher swore by silent sitting as the only real path. I bought into that for years, trying to force my mind to be quiet. Reading this thread, especially about the body scan making stress worse, really clicked for me. I finally tried walking meditation last month when my anxiety was too high to sit still. It was a game changer, moving with the noise in my head instead of fighting it. That shift from chasing quiet to just being with the mess is everything.
