My book club spent 40 minutes fighting about the ending of The Push and never touched chapter 12
Last Tuesday our group of 8 met at a diner in Sacramento and one member said the twist ruined the whole book, then 5 other people jumped in before anyone else could talk. We ended up debating whether an unlikeable mom narrator is a cheap trick or honest writing, and the person who picked the book never got to say why she chose it. How do you all keep one loud opinion from eating the whole meeting?

Our group did the exact same thing with Lessons in Chemistry, spent the whole night on the dog's point of view and never got to the actual story. Now we pass a timer around and whoever picked the book talks first, no matter what.
