Rant: I think residential solar installs are getting way too sloppy with their grounding

Fair enough, but I've seen crews do it that way for years with no issues... as long as the main bond is solid, the extra connection isn't always needed. A lot of older racking systems used those rusty bolts too, and they passed inspection back then.

That old bricklayer's tip about soaking bricks still haunts me

Totally agree with you man, Frank knew his stuff. I had a similar lesson with a concrete pour once, this old guy told me to wet the ground before pouring to keep the mix from drying out too quick. I thought it was dumb and just poured on the dry dirt. The slab ended up cracking all over because the bottom sucked the moisture out so fast. Took me a whole weekend to jackhammer it out and redo it right. Never skip the prep that the old heads swear by.

The thing that bugs me about how people describe Batman's no-kill rule

Yeah totally, I read somewhere that it's like an alcoholic staying away from that first drink.

My sewing machine ate the fabric during a live stream in Austin last month

Is it bad that I used to think this was all just bad luck or people exaggerating? But then I had my old sewing machine jam up three times in a row right when I was trying to show my niece how to use it, and I totally get it now. @sethm58 you're right, it really does feel like they save their biggest meltdowns for the worst possible moment (usually when someone is watching).

Wasted $150 on a half-baked legal template pack from Etsy

And it's not just the state law stuff either... I found out the hard way that some of those templates have clauses that directly contradict each other if you read close enough. Like one section says the client owns all work product but another says you retain rights for your portfolio... total mess. The worst part is you don't catch these problems until a client actually points them out and then you look unprofessional in front of someone paying you.
