Our book club argued for 45 min over who narrated the audiobook version

Last Tuesday at the library meeting room, half the group insisted it was the same narrator as the Sandman series and the other half swore it was someone else. Turns out we were all right, the publisher re-released it with a second narrator for the sequel chapters. It just made me realize how much the listening experience shapes the debate, way more than the print version did. Anyone else ever had a book club argument that was totally about the audio production instead of the story itself?

wait wait, hold on, that's not quite right about the Sandman narrator thing. Neil Gaiman himself narrates the main Sandman audiobooks, but the ones with the full cast have like a dozen different people doing voices. I think what happened with your book is probably that the first narrator did the original chapters and then they brought in a second person specifically for the sequel stuff, which is way more common than people realize. Publishers do that all the time when there's a big gap between releases or if the first narrator isn't available anymore. It's honestly wild how much that messes with your head while listening, cause you get used to a voice and then suddenly it changes mid-book and you're like "who is this person?" We had a similar thing happen with a series where the main narrator switched between books 2 and 3 and half our group refused to continue cause it felt like a totally different character. The print version never gets that problem, so yeah, audio really does shape the whole debate in a way nobody expects going in.
