Our book club meeting at the library last month got way too heated about a plot point

We were discussing a thriller, and two members got into a full blown argument over whether a character's actions were justified. It got so loud the librarian had to ask us to quiet down. I used to just nod along during debates, but seeing how personal it got made me change my approach. Now I come with three specific page numbers to back up any point I want to make. It keeps things focused on the text. Has your club ever had a debate that almost derailed the whole meeting?

Oh man, have we ever had a meeting go off the rails? We were talking about this one book where the main guy just makes the worst choices, and I got so into defending him that I accidentally knocked over my entire glass of wine. So now I'm the reason our club has a "no red wine near the books" rule. Your page number idea is smart, way better than my method of just talking louder until people agree with me.

Okay but @taylor.brooke, is a "no red wine" rule really needed? It was one spilled glass. Seems like the club is overreacting to a simple accident. My method is just using a coaster and keeping my hands to myself when I get fired up.

Honestly, I feel your pain. Remember that time I got so mad about a movie ending I threw my hands up and sent a whole bowl of popcorn flying? It was like a buttery explosion all over the couch. Sometimes you just get too into it and stuff happens. A full ban does seem a bit much for one spill though.
