Our book club spent 40 minutes arguing about a sandwich in Chapter 3 and never got to the ending
We met at the diner on 5th Street like always, and when Dana said the author clearly meant the sandwich as a symbol of lost love, half the table sided with her while the rest of us just wanted to talk about why the sister disappeared, so now I'm wondering if any other group gets this stuck on one small detail.
My aunt's group once burned a whole meeting on whether a casserole dish was the same one from page 12 or a different one, and nobody could prove it either way. They ended up passing the book around so everyone could check the food scenes again. By the time they were done, the meeting was over and the ending never got touched. They still bring it up years later like it was the best part of the book. Sometimes the small stuff is what people actually want to dig into, and the plot just sits there waiting.
