Our club picked a 900 page book and the meeting turned into a 3 hour fight about the ending
Nine of us showed up at Diane's place in Cleveland last Wednesday for what was supposed to be a quick chat about the book, but by 9pm we had two people not speaking to each other over whether the author meant for the brother to die or not, and now I'm wondering if anyone else has had a book club pick completely wreck the group dynamic like this.

That line about "two people not speaking to each other" is what gets me, because was it really about whether the brother died, or was that just the thing they could point at? Nine times out of ten when a club blows up over a book, there was already something simmering underneath and the book just gave people a reason to pick sides. So which one was it for you, did this come out of nowhere or had those two been butting heads for months and the ending was just the match? And here's the real question, did the group actually split for good, or did everyone cool off and show up to the next one like nothing happened?
