Our club picked a 900 page doorstop for January and I voted against it twice
I thought a book that long would kill attendance, but 7 of our 11 members finished it and we had our best talk in a year. Has a big pick ever won you over, or does page count still scare your group off?
So 4 of your 11 didn't finish it, right? That's a third of the group showing up to a talk about a book they never got through, and that is exactly how you lose the people who are already on the fence. One good meeting does not mean much, you may have just gotten lucky with a crowd that had the time in January when nothing else was going on. Try that same pick in June and see how many people make it past page 300.
