TIL my book club in Boise split over whether we should finish books we hate
We picked a 600 page novel back in March and 4 of our 9 members quit reading by page 80. Half the group said if you start a book club book you finish it, the other half said life is too short for a slog. We ended up voting and it passed 6 to 3 to allow quitting, and the meeting was way better than the book. So where do you all land, finish it no matter what or bail without guilt?
600 pages and people bailed at 80, that's a third of the way through a huge book. I get the life is too short thing but honestly our group finished a boring one last year and the talk after was better than any of us expected. Sometimes the slog is the point, you know?
