Wife's throwaway comment about audiobooks flipped my reading take
I used to trash audiobooks hard, called them cheating for book club for like 3 years. Then my wife listened to Project Hail Mary during her 45 minute commute and kept quoting scenes I missed. I borrowed her earbuds one trip to Portland and realized I was missing the book's momentum, not the substance. Now I do hybrid, read physical at home and listen on the road, and it's made me a way better participant in debates. Anyone else flip on this or am I the last one who gave in?
Hybrid reading is honestly the move for me too, started with long drives and now I can't go back. The trick was picking narrators who actually get the pacing, otherwise it feels flat and I check out. It's like suddenly having two slots in the day for books instead of one, so I finish way more and remember it better.
