That $180 bone folder finally made sense to me
I used to buy the $5 plastic ones and replace them every few months, but last year I splurged on a proper polished cow bone folder and it's still going strong. The weight lets me press creases without fighting the tool, and it's actually smoothed out my spine work on bigger projects. Anyone else reach a point where spending real money on a basic tool was worth it, or am I just getting old?

I kept buying the cheap ones that would dull out or snap in the dishwasher, and finally my sister convinced me to get one of those fancy Swiss ones with the razor edge. It's been three years and it still shreds a block of cheddar like it's butter, so I get the bone folder thing completely. My takeaway is that sometimes the expensive version of a basic tool is less about the status and more about how it changes your whole workflow, you know? That said, I still refuse to buy name brand spatulas because some things are just rubber on a stick. Your mileage may vary on the bone folder, but I bet the weight thing is real, especially if you're doing a lot of big projects.
