Appreciation post: my moss patch finally turned green after 11 weeks on a north wall in Duluth
I stuck a clump of cushion moss on a damp north wall behind my shed back in April, mostly as a test, and it stayed brown and sad for weeks. Then last Tuesday I checked and it had spread to about 6 inches wide with tiny new tips showing, and the sponge smell when I touched it was gone. Turns out moss needs shade and steady moisture but almost no soil, and the rain gutter drip was doing all the work. I got the care note off a laminated card at a garden center in Duluth, of all places. Has anyone had luck getting moss to hold on a slope where water runs off fast?
