Rant: my mortar joints went from trash to clean in 3 weeks and I feel dumb for not fixing it sooner
I've been laying block for 6 years and my joints always looked sloppy, smeared mortar all over the face and spent forever cleaning up after. Three weeks ago a guy on my crew in Toledo showed me I was overloading the mortar board and not letting the mud set up right before jointing. I switched to letting it thumbprint dry for about 10 extra minutes and now my joints come out crisp with barely any cleanup. My production went from 400 block a day to almost 550 just from that one change. Feels stupid that it took this long to figure out something so basic. Anyone else been taught a bad habit early on that took years to break?
