That Tuesday the mortar wouldn't dry no matter what I did
I was working a garden wall in Portland last week and it rained sideways for three days straight. I tarped the whole job but the sand I had delivered was wetter than a sponge, so every batch I mixed turned to soup. By Thursday I had re-laid the same course of brick four times and my trowel arm felt like it was gonna fall off. The homeowner kept coming out saying 'looks good from my house' which just about killed me. Finally I drove 40 minutes to a masonry supply and bought bagged mix, cost me $63 extra but it saved the whole schedule. Anyone else ever get burned by a damp sand delivery or is it just my luck up here?
