Rant: spent 2 months blaming my stove for bad rice when it was my pot the whole time
For about two months I kept getting mushy rice and I was sure my old electric stove was the problem, so I started messing with heat settings and soaking times. I tried three different bags of rice, a $12 kitchen scale, and even a new lid before my neighbor Dana watched me cook and pointed right at my pot. Turns out my pot was too wide and thin, so the water boiled off before the rice could steam right, even on low. I switched to a $9 thrift store pot with a thick bottom and tight lid, and the very next batch came out perfect. Two months of bad dinners over a pot I already had sitting in my cabinet. What is the dumb kitchen thing you chased for way too long before someone else spotted it?
