My cheap backpack zipper gave out at the airport in Bangkok

Honestly, it was a total mess. I was checking in for a flight to Chiang Mai last Tuesday and the main compartment just split open. Tbh, I'd only paid like $25 for the bag a few months back. I had to grab a roll of duct tape from a convenience store and basically wrap the whole thing up to get it on the plane. Has anyone found a decent, actually durable backpack that doesn't cost a fortune?

I always thought the zipper was the first thing to go, but my last Jansport died from the bottom seam splitting after two years. The fabric was fine but the stitching just gave out. Now I check for double stitching along all the stress points.

Check the stitching on the side panels before you buy, that's usually the weak spot.

Hey @jenniferhart, didn't I read somewhere that the thread type matters too? Like polyester holds up better than cotton for that part.
