Hot take: I finally quit buying coffee on the way to work and my grocery bill is the weird part
For like 3 years I stopped at the same drive thru near my place in Boise every single weekday and spent $4.85 on a large drip, which is roughly $100 a month if you do the math. Back in January my car died for 2 weeks and I had to walk past a grocery store, so I grabbed a $9 bag of ground coffee and a $12 reusable cup and just made it at home. The thing that got me is my grocery bill went up maybe $15 a month, but that coffee line item vanished, so I'm ahead about $85. Now I'm wondering what else I'm bleeding money on without noticing because it's small. What's the one tiny habit you cut that turned out to be a way bigger number than you thought?
That coffee line item vanishing while your grocery bill barely moved is the whole story right there, it's wild how a $5 thing sneaks past you every day. Mine was bottled water, I was buying a case every week without even thinking about it. Then I got a $20 filter pitcher and now I just fill it from the tap. Saved me like $40 a month and I never once felt like I was giving anything up.
