I finally saw my grocery budget drop $120 a month after switching to Aldi for 6 weeks straight
Before that I was dropping $400 a month at Kroger and complaining about prices, but now I'm wondering if the savings are worth the smaller selection and weird brand names - has anyone else had this debate?

Oh man I gotta push back on this a little... the savings are real but those off-brand names just don't hit the same. Like their "bacon flavored bits" tasted like salty cardboard and I couldn't even finish the bag.

Ngl I think you just got a bad bag or something. I've been buying their bacon bits for years and they're perfectly fine on a loaded baked potato.

Im wondering if maybe the issue isnt the brand itself but how we're using them. I tried those same bacon bits in a salad once and yeah, gross. But then I threw them into a pot of beans and let them cook down for 20 minutes and they actually added a decent smoky flavor. Your mileage may vary obviously but I think a lot of these store brand items work better as ingredients than standalone snacks. Like their canned chili is nothing special on its own but mix it with some shredded cheese and rice and its pretty solid.
