Serious question, what's your go-to trick for a stuck lowering block?

You said it's probably not a big deal once you look at the details, but that's the whole problem. The details in the fine print are exactly where they hide the bad stuff. My friend's billing issue was a tiny mistake, but the terms let them freeze the account completely. Reading the details shows you how risky it is, it doesn't make it safer.

Warning: People keep putting their deck boards too close together

Ugh, that's the worst feeling. I mean, you put in all that work and then watch it just... pop. I had a small section on my old deck do the same thing, just a few boards, and it was still such a pain to fix. It really does feel like you're building it to fail if you skip that gap.

Rant: Seeing a lot of new guys skip the story stick

Yeah that sounds about right. I made a story stick out of some scrap plywood for my last kitchen project and it saved my butt. Just mark everything once and transfer the lines, no math needed.

My uncle told me to always double-check the load chart after a rain, and it saved my rig last month.

Sometimes you just get a feel for the ground after a while. Charts are a good start, but experience tells you more. I've seen guys follow the book and still get stuck because they didn't trust their gut about a spot. All that moving around can waste more time than it saves if you know your machine and the site.

Serious question, has a simple ground check ever saved you a full day of work?

Yeah, that's the thing, it's not really wasted time. You have to rule out the complex stuff first, or you'll just be cleaning pins for faults that need a whole new box. The visual check is basic, but you can't start there every time, you know? That lead only knew to check pin 17 because he's seen that exact failure a dozen times before.
