Just realized my habit trackers were way too complicated

I used to have this massive habit tracker with like 15 categories - water intake, steps, reading, meditation, you name it. Then my buddy who also bullet journals told me I was basically making a chore chart for myself instead of something helpful. He said keep it to 3 things max and focus on what actually moves the needle. So I cut it down to just sleep, exercise, and sketching for 10 minutes a day. After 2 months of that, my completion rate went from maybe 40% to over 80%. Has anyone else had to pare down their spreads to actually make them stick?

Wait, you mean tracking 17 things on a color-coded spreadsheet didn't magically fix my life? Shocking. I had the same problem. Made this huge chart with 20 categories including "stretch for 30 seconds" and "don't yell at my cat." Completion rate was like 10%. Now I track exactly one thing: whether I ate breakfast. That's it. Hit 90% every month. Sometimes you gotta admit you're just not that organized and work with it.

Tell me, what made you think habits needed tracking in the first place?
