Had a customer bring in a whole hog last Tuesday and my 20 year old Hobart band saw started squealing halfway through the first cut. I tore the whole thing apart, checked the tension wheel, greased every moving part, even swapped the blade thinking it was a bad weld. Four hours later I finally traced it to a tiny guide bearing behind the upper wheel that was bone dry and gritty, a $2 part at most. Part of me says I should have just swapped the whole guide assembly for $40 and been done in 20 minutes, but the other part says teardown taught me more about this machine than 5 years of normal use. So do you guys just replace bearings on sight or do you ride them till they scream like I did?
