A finisher in Knoxville told me to stop sanding to 220 between coats, and my topcoats look better now
I was sanding every coat to 220 on a maple vanity build for a client in Knoxville, probably 40 doors and drawers total, and it was eating my weekends. The finisher they hired to spray it pulled me aside and said 320 was actually making the next coat slide around instead of grabbing, and he told me to knock it back to 150 between coats and only go finer on the final pass. First two coats after that looked a little rougher dry, but the third coat leveled out glassy with almost no nibs. Cost me way less in paper too, maybe $30 a project saved. Anybody else get told they were over-sanding, or is 220 still your go-to between coats?
