Changed my mind about soft-close hinges after one rental flip

I always thought soft-close hardware was a gimmick, something homeowners only asked for because they saw it on TV. Then last month I put a set on a kitchen I built for a rental property over near Grand Rapids, and the renter specifically thanked me for the doors not slamming. The weird part is I also felt the difference during the install, the hinges just feel more solid when they ease shut. Now I'm wondering if I should be using them on every project or if that pushes my material cost up too much for basic jobs. What do you guys charge extra for soft-close vs standard? Has anyone had a client actually complain about the price?

Honestly I think you're overthinking this, the renter probably just wanted something nice to say and the "solid feel" is all in your head. Every extra part like that is just one more thing to break or adjust down the road, and for a rental flip you're better off keeping it simple and cheap.
