Got told my drawer boxes were 'too tight' by an old cabinet guy in Tulsa
Had a guy with 30 years in the trade look at a set of shop drawers I built and he said they fit so snug they'd swell shut come July. I'd been cutting them at 1/16 inch clearance because I thought tight meant quality, and I switched to 1/8 inch with a little wax on the runners after that. What clearance do you all cut for drawer boxes in a humid climate?
1/8 inch is too loose for a lot of drawer fronts, you end up seeing gaps that look sloppy. I've run 3/32 in my shop for years in Missouri and never had a box swell shut on me. The trick is sealing the end grain and the runners good, bare wood is gonna move no matter how much clearance you give it.
