Guy on my crew keeps failing QC on fittings, and I think it's his crimp tool
We do mostly Comcast new builds around Aurora, and this newer guy has had 3 jobs in a row flagged for loose F connectors even though he swears he's torquing them down. I watched him work Friday and noticed he's using the same crimper he bought off a truck stop rack, and the die in it looks worn smooth. Is it worth handing him my spare compression tool for a couple weeks to see if his fail rate drops, or should I just have him swap the die and keep the same tool?
Man, this is just like when my brother kept blaming his miter saw for gaps in his trim work and it turned out the blade was dull as a butter knife. Same story everywhere, people trust the tool but never check the wear parts. That die being smooth is your whole answer right there, the crimper is squeezing but it can't bite. Swap the die first since it costs nothing and takes two minutes, and if the fails keep coming then hand him your spare. But honestly, watching someone work for one afternoon told you more than three QC reports ever could, didn't it?
