Went to a speed networking event last week and it was a mess

I read somewhere that speed networking is basically just speed dating for small business owners lol. The broken timer thing is rough though, I feel like you need at least a full 2 minutes to get past the awkward small talk and find common ground.

Just realized I was the problem in a client mess I had last month

Just realized I was the problem" - see, I gotta push back on that a little. Sometimes being direct with a client isn't being the problem, it's just being honest about what you can and can't do. That customer had baggage from a past bad crew, sure, but that doesn't mean your frustration wasn't valid either. You were trying to do a job and they kept fighting you on it... that gets old fast no matter how understanding you try to be. We're not therapists, we're people trying to get work done. Sometimes the "problem" is just two reasonable people who see things different.

I swore I'd never watch a show about a chess prodigy, but The Queen's Gambit proved me wrong

@joseph957 dramatic? Maybe. But the whole "I'm above this" thing is a real trap with prestige TV. What specifically about the show's setup made you cave and watch it, or was it just the hype cycle wearing you down? Because I had the same attitude about a sports movie once, then someone just said "watch the first ten minutes" and suddenly I'm three episodes deep at 2 AM. Wood.jana's point about promises to free time hits different when you've already broken that promise to yourself. The show earned its ending though, which is rare for something that gets that much praise.

Read a baking blog that said 'always use a scale' and I finally tried it last night

I mean is it really that serious though? I've been making cookies with measuring cups for like 15 years and they come out fine. Uniform size and texture sounds nice and all but does the taste actually change or is it just a placebo effect for people who like fancy kitchen gadgets. Washing a scale after every batch seems like a pain for something that probably barely matters once you've eaten three cookies. Maybe it helps if you're trying to win a baking competition or something but for regular Tuesday night cookies I don't see the big deal.

The random screw I found in my attic was the exact size I needed for a shelf project

Exactly, the previous owner's leftovers are like a time capsule of bad decisions. My attic had a stack of 90s sports illustrated magazines next to a rusted hedge trimmer that still had grass clippings on it from like 1998. The spider carcass thing is real though, I pulled down a box of christmas lights and found a whole ecosystem of dead bugs and what looked like a dried up mouse tail. Dust mask is mandatory, I learned that the hard way when I sneezed for three days after poking around up there once.
