I wrote 30 short stories from the same one line prompt and only 4 were worth keeping
Last month I grabbed a random prompt from an old list, "a key that opens nothing," and wrote one short story per day for 30 days. I figured by day 20 I would be swimming in gold, but when I reread them all on Sunday I only kept 4. The weird part is my best one came from day 6, not day 29, and the last week was mostly junk I forced out to hit the number. I learned that repeating a prompt makes you lazy, you start leaning on the same image instead of digging for something new. Now I change one word in the prompt every few days and it keeps the whole thing from going stale. Has anyone else tried a 30 day run on a single prompt and did you keep more than I did?
