My dentist in Tulsa said something about crowns vs fillings that made me rethink my whole tooth care plan
I was sitting in the chair at my dentist's office in Tulsa last Tuesday, and he started talking about why he recommended a crown over a filling for my back molar. He said something like, "A filling is like patching a tire, but a crown is like getting a whole new wheel." That hit me because I always thought a filling was the simpler, cheaper fix. He explained that for a tooth with a big crack, a filling might only last 3 to 5 years, but a crown can go 15 years or more if you take care of it. I had no idea the difference in lifespan was that big. It made me wonder if I've been picking the cheap option when I should have been thinking long term. Has anyone else had a dentist push a crown when you thought a filling would do the job? What did you end up choosing?
