Wrote off ultrasonic cleaning for sticky 1970s aperture blades, one dunk in an Iowa shop proved me wrong
Dropped a frozen 50mm f/1.8 in a $30 Amazon ultrasonic filled with naphtha last Tuesday and those blades snapped back in under 4 minutes, so now I'm wondering what else I've been scrubbing by hand for no reason?
I read somewhere that old repair techs swore by ultrasonic tanks for all kinds of small parts, not just camera gear. Some guys even run carburetor jets and watch movements through them with the right fluid. Just be careful with anything painted or coated, since it can strip stuff you wanted to keep.
