Rant: took a job 90 minutes away for the pay bump and now I'm eating gas money alive
I said yes to a $4/hr raise in San Antonio thinking it would even out, but I'm burning $70 a week in gas and 3 hours a day in my car. Has anyone done the math on when a commute actually cancels out a raise?

Wait, $70 a week just in gas? That is wild. And three hours a day in the car is basically a part time job you don't get paid for. Let me do the quick math here, $4/hr is about $160 a week before taxes if you work full time, so gas alone eats almost half of that, and that's before you even count wear and tear on your car. Once you add oil changes, tires, and the miles piling up, I would bet you're actually losing money on this deal.
