Switched from applying to 50 jobs a week to 5 targeted applications...

I used to blast my resume everywhere, probably sent out 200 apps in 3 months. Got maybe 3 callbacks total, all dead ends. After talking to a recruiter friend in Nashville, I changed my whole approach last fall. Now I spend 3 hours tailoring each application and cover letter for just 5 roles a week. Has anyone else found that quality over quantity actually works better for getting interviews?

3 hours per app is way too long. Focus on hitting the key points.

Fair point @milalewis, but don't you think 3 hours could work if you're customizing each one? Just gotta be smart about where you spend that time.
