Old timer in Tulsa told me to stop buying plywood and start buying lumber
Was picking up a load of 3/4 inch sanded ply at the yard in Tulsa last Tuesday and this old guy next to me asked what I was building. Told him shop cabinets. He laughed and said he hadn't bought a sheet of ply in 15 years. Said he rips 2x12s down, glues them up, planes them flat. I thought he was full of it. Then he showed me his truck bed, full of rough cut pine he milled himself, and said the panel glue ups from real wood move less and take stain 10 times better. Blew my mind because I've been fighting veneer chip out and bubbles for 20 years. Anyone else making their own panels from solid stock instead of ply?
