Can we talk about how I stopped stretching carpet by hand after 15 years
I always figured a power stretcher was for the young guys and I could still get a room tight with a knee kicker and my own two arms. Last month I was doing a 40 yard berber job in a rental out on Ferry Street and the homeowner, an older guy who used to install back in the 80s, watched me fight a corner for 20 minutes. He didn't say much, just handed me his old power stretcher and said "try it once, I'll wait." That room locked in tighter in about 4 minutes than anything I ever pulled by hand, and my knees didn't hate me the next morning. I've done 3 more jobs since with it and the seams are flatter and I'm not re-stretching callbacks. So yeah, I was wrong for a long time, mostly out of pride. Any of you still kicking everything by hand or did you switch over at some point?
My uncle handed me his old power stretcher like that too and I let it sit in my truck for a year before I touched it, mostly out of being stubborn. Funny how a tool can sit there judging you until you finally give in.
