Update: I gave up hand-sewing seams and bought a Kool Glide, and I have mixed feelings after 3 months
For 11 years I sewed every seam by hand with a curved needle and a locking stitch, and I swore I would never touch a heat bond tool. Last March I finally bought a Kool Glide for $450 because my hands were cramping so bad on big rooms that I was losing a full hour of work a day. The speed is real, I can close a 40 foot seam in under 20 minutes now and the tape is way stronger than most people think when you set the heat right. But here is my problem, I came up on a crew in Lubbock where the old guys said if you can see where the seam was, you failed, and I still catch myself running my palm down a seam looking for that bump. Also the tool leaves a shine on some berbers that hand sewing never did, and I had to eat $200 on a redo because of it. Anybody else switch over and did you ever get used to the look, or do you still hand stitch certain piles?
Curious what heat setting you landed on for those berbers that took the shine. Did you try backing the temp down a notch or switch tapes before you ate the redo?
