Overheard a contractor bragging about late fees, made me rethink mine

Last week at a coffee shop in Austin, I heard two guys laughing about how they tack on a 10% late fee after 15 days and their customers just pay it without question. I've always been too nice about chasing payments, and my current overdue invoice is $2,800 from a small business that keeps saying "next week." Hearing that made me realize I've been treating grown adults like they can't handle consequences. Do you all actually enforce late fees or do you just threaten them to get the check moving?
