Small win: got a $4,700 invoice paid by adding a 2% late fee notice
Found out that in my state, you can legally charge interest on overdue invoices as long as it's written on the original terms, so I added a simple line to my contract last month. Client paid 3 days after the due date for the first time in 6 months, guess that tiny threat did it. Anyone else had luck with adding fees without scaring off regulars?

Tiny threat did it" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, but I respect it. I tried the same thing once and my regular client just paid late anyway, then sent me a check with the late fee deducted and a note saying "figured you'd want to keep it fair." So now I just print my invoices on slightly aggressive paper and hope for the best. Honestly, the only fee I've ever successfully added was the one where I charged myself interest for checking my bank account too often. But good for you, seriously, you're basically a debt collector with better lighting now.
