Saw a custom chimney cap in Charleston that blew me away

Headed down to Charleston last month for a family thing, and I ended up walking past this old brownstone on King Street. The chimney cap on it was something else. Hammered copper, hand-rolled seams, the whole thing looked like it was built by a shipwright. Got to talking with the homeowner who was outside, and he said it was part of a 1987 restoration project. Cost them $1,400 back then, and it still had zero rust or warping. I've put in plenty of stainless caps that need replacing after a decade, so seeing that kind of durability really stuck with me. Has anyone else run into older copper work and thought about switching up their standard materials?
