Update: my old roommate in Austin told me to stop emailing ghosted clients and it worked
Back in March I had a guy go dark on a $650 design job, and my roommate Marcus told me to quit sending follow up emails every 2 days. He told me to send one final note with a deadline, then stop cold. I did that, and the guy paid within 48 hours. Now I'm wondering if I should make that my whole policy or if I just got lucky with this one.
The one time I tried the "one last email with a deadline" move, I wrote like three drafts of it and still sent it at 2am because I was scared of sounding mean. So yeah, real impressive that you nailed it on the first shot. The truth is it probably works because you stop looking desperate, and clients can smell desperation like a dog smells bacon. One firm note gives them a clear choice instead of a pile of emails they can keep ignoring. I'd say run it as your normal thing for a few more jobs before you call it a law of the universe though.
