My old landlord in Phoenix charged me $400 to repaint a wall I never touched, so I started doing one thing different with every move out
Three years ago I moved out of an apartment in Phoenix and got hit with a $400 bill for a wall I never even hung anything on. I argued with the property manager for two weeks over email and got nowhere, so I just paid it and ate ramen for a month. Then last year when I moved out of my place in Tempe, I did a full video walkthrough with a timestamp on my phone before handing back the keys. That one change saved me $650 in bogus charges because they tried the same wall trick and I had proof it was spotless. The old way was me trusting a handshake and a clipboard, the new way is 4 minutes of filming every room and the inside of the oven. Has anyone else had a landlord pull the paint charge scam, and did filming actually hold up if it went to small claims?
