Shoutout to the roofer in Phoenix who told me to drop my worst paying client
My buddy Dave runs a roofing crew out in Phoenix and he told me last week that 80% of his headaches come from 20% of his clients, and the cheap ones are always the loudest. Now I'm stuck between two ways of thinking: do you just eat the bad clients because the money is steady, or do you cut them loose and risk a slow month? He swears dropping two low paying customers freed up his crew for bigger jobs. Curious if anyone here has actually fired a client on purpose and what happened after.
Man, I feel this so hard. My sister runs a cleaning business and had this one lady who paid the least but called her like five times a week about every little thing, then wanted a discount on top of it. She finally let her go and yeah, the next month was a little slow, but she picked up two normal clients who didn't stress her out at all. I get why people hang onto the steady cash, but there's a real cost to dealing with the cheap loud ones, like your time and your sanity. Dave's 80/20 thing sounds spot on to me.
