I thought the 'pay half up front' rule was just for big jobs, but a $500 logo project proved me wrong.

A new client seemed nice and agreed to my price right away. I figured since it was a smaller project, I could skip my usual deposit. Big mistake. After I sent the final files, they stopped answering emails. It took three weeks of chasing them just to get a partial payment, and I never saw the rest. That $250 loss hurt. Now I take a 50% deposit on everything, no matter the size. Has anyone else had a small project turn into a payment nightmare?

Figured out that "free" usually means "you're about to pay with your time and sanity." Good times.
