Is 'We're a family here' actually a code for no boundaries?
I took a small design gig in Austin last spring, and the owner kept saying we're a family here during the pitch. Turns out, family means texting me at 11pm on a Sunday for logo tweaks and then getting quiet when I sent an invoice for the extra 14 revisions. I've also had clients who say nothing about culture and pay on time, so am I just reading too much into a cliche? Do you all treat phrases like that as a warning sign or just a harmless speech thing?
