The deposit check that bounced after 3 weeks of 'it's in the mail'

Had a guy in Tulsa hire me for a 40 foot fence. Paid the deposit no problem. Then the job got delayed twice, he kept saying 'it's in the mail' for the second payment. Worked half the job on good faith. Finally got a text at 9pm saying the check bounced. Told him I'd need cash upfront to finish. He ghosted me for a week. Came back with cash and an attitude, but I finished and walked away. Anyone else get burned by the bounce-back excuse?
