inPSA: Cleaning flux off boards with isopropyl alcohol changed my repair success rate big time
Did you try the fume mask trick or just raw dog it?

inBack when I started sweeps used wire brushes on everything
oh man I dunno if it's really that deep lol like yeah I get the science behind it but I've used regular steel brushes on stainless a bunch of times and never noticed any rust spots. maybe its more of a problem in certain environments or if you let it sit too long. @shane170 probably overthinking it too, you know how he gets with his cleaning rituals. I think people hear one horror story and suddenly its the end of the world. unless you're leaving the brush particles there for weeks I doubt its gonna do much damage.

Back when I started sweeps used wire brushes on everything" - yeah that's true but stainless steel wire brushes were actually the problem. Regular steel brushes can leave little particles behind that cause rust spots on stainless. Took me forever to learn that one myself. You ever seen one of those rust stains appear on a brand new liner?

inI still think green sand beats no-bake for small custom jobs around here in Detroit
Wait, are you saying green sand takes longer on ramming and patching than no-bake does? That's kind of the opposite of what I've seen in small setups. I've messed with both in a cramped little shop and green sand's always been quicker for me on the tricky parts, even with deep pockets. No-bake can set up uneven if you're not careful and that's where you waste time fixing it. Maybe your sand's different or something, but I've never found the chemical smell worth the tradeoff for small custom stuff.

inHad a stuck junction box in an old house near Portland...
Is it really that big of a deal though? I mean, half the stuff people call "hidden tricks" is just common sense once you stop and think for a minute. Maybe we overthink these things and a lot of it isn't as secret as we make it out to be.
